FREE clothing, household goods, baby items, and furniture are sometimes provided by community based, faith based or other charitable organizations. Eligibility requirements vary, but usually include residency of service area and income restrictions.
THRIFT SHOPS, such as Goodwill Retail Stores, Salvation Army Thrift Stores, and Savers sell used clothing, household goods, baby items, furniture and other items. Items are donated to the thrift stores and are sold to benefit a particular program or nonprofit agency.
CONSIGNMENT SHOPS, or resale shops, also offer low-cost clothing and other items. Consignment shops will sell items that people bring in and will return a percentage of the sale amount to the person who owns the item. Consignment shops are privately owned and do not appear in Connecticut’s Community Resources Database.
