PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR: Program is a joint partnership between the Alzheimer’s Association – Connecticut Chapter, the five regional Area of Agencies on Aging and the Connecticut State Department of Aging and Disability Services.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Connecticut Respite Care Program provides caregivers with services and help with developing a care plan for an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia disorders. Eligible caregivers may apply for daytime or overnight respite services including: adult day care, home health aide, homemaker/companion, skilled nursing care or short term assisted living stays. The program pays for up to $7,500 in respite care services per family, per year. A 20% co-payment of the cost of service is required.
COST: 20% co-payment of the cost of services; a waiver is possible in case of financial hardship.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE: An income and asset test is placed on the person needing care, not the caregiver. The person needing care cannot be covered by Medicaid, must have an income of $55,561 a year or less, and liquid assets of $147,715 or less. The applicant or authorized agent must provide a physician’s statement declaring that the patient has Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia disorder.
