What is Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)?
VITA is a service that offers free tax preparation from mid-January through mid-April to individuals and households who qualify.
BASIC ELIGIBILITY FOR VITA:
*VITA is also available for persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.
Looking to have your taxes completed by a VITA site?
Taxpayers bring their tax documents (click HERE for the list of required documents) to a physical VITA location to have their tax return completed by a certified VITA volunteer. The VITA volunteer prepares the tax return and files it with the taxpayer’s consent.
Click the links below to see a list of VITA sites in and around your county. Read the details for each VITA location carefully to determine how to make an appointment.
BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT ONLINE: Some VITA sites allow for booking appointments online. To make an appointment at one of those sites, click HERE.
NEED TO CALL? If you need additional assistance or wish to book an appointment at a site that doesn’t offer online booking, you may dial 2-1-1 (press option 3, and then 6) between Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.
Want to have your taxes completed virtually online with VITA?
Use GetYourRefund.org to upload your tax documents to a virtual VITA site. Taxpayers answer simple questions about their household situation, securely upload tax documents, and get connected to a certified VITA volunteer. The VITA team will remotely prepare the tax return, speak with the taxpayer to review their return, and file the return with taxpayer consent.
The GetYourRefund virtual VITA platform is expected to open on January 31st. Click HERE after January 31st to get your online VITA return started.
